Two examples of what Greatness Looks like:
- Be Different
- Deliver Different
Be Different
Every average person in the world ‘takes, takes, takes’. To be different, be the kind of person that gives more than you take. Being a ‘taker’ is just another form of mediocrity. You become another member of Team Average. You don’t want that. You want to do world-class work. You want to be original. Authentic.
What does it mean to be different?
Produce more work than is expected of you. Period! And I mean ‘quality’ work not just quantity. And I don’t mean doing longer hours either. Working hard and smart is where the magic happens. Don’t waste too much time talking. Be a ‘doer’ instead. I know this might sound difficult because you feel like you are already giving your all. But I never said that being GREAT is easy. Greatness surprises. Greatness makes an impact. And it leaves people wondering, “How on our earth do they produce more than expected?”
Deliver Different
…to anyone you come into contact with in the outside world. There are a lot of companies that tell their staff to deliver ‘wow’ to customers. Frankly I am tired of this cliché peddled by management consultants who are here one day gone the next. I think we should deliver ‘different’ first. People will think ‘…that was different!’ followed by ‘Someone actually cares…’
So how do you deliver ‘different’? Under-promise and over-deliver! That’s how.
Every mediocre company out there, big or small, does the opposite. They promise the world to get the business but then fall far short of expectations when they deliver. They leave you on hold for long periods. They confuse you with jargon you just don’t understand. Or they talk to you like robots reading a script. These companies are the captains of Team Average. Forget Team Average.
Be different and deliver different. Make an impact!
